Today was my first time driving Demi to her art school by myself — it felt really far! After the lesson, we didn’t bring anything home. The only thing I saw was some white paper scraps on the table, and they said it was a project… still not finished.
Then Demi shared with me what inspired her to think about the art. She told me that for this project, they have to figure out how to sculpt using just white paper — no tape, no glue, only water. She discovered that when the paper gets wet, she can shape it by hand, and once it dries, it turns into a 3D sculpture.
This time, they were just exploring the material and its characteristics. Next time, they’ll dive deeper into the concept and actually create their white paper sculptures.
Demi shared so many thoughtful details — about realism, what art means, and how touch connects to shaping ideas. I think the long drive was totally worth it, just to hear her thought process and see her have such a meaningful experience.
